Culture-negative necrotizing otitis externa: diagnosis and management

Abstract Objective We aim to describe the clinical features and therapeutic management of necrotizing otitis externa (NOE) with negative culture. Patients methods included all patients NOE, who were treated in period between 2008 2020 our department. Results A total 25 cases NOE included. The result culture was 13 (52%). All received a local treatment prior hospitalization, eight (61.5%) oral antibiotic. sampling otorrhea done for patients. Fungal serology performed six patients; it positive two cases. prescribed first-line ciprofloxacin combination ceftazidime 10 patients, while based on use imipenem 2 one patient only ciprofloxacin. An improvement noted (77%). second-line three resistance case. For aspergillus serology, teicoplanin, fusidic acid, imipenem, voriconazole other voriconazole. duration minimum 6 weeks. cases, recurrence 3 Conclusion In study, there no or radiological specificities NEO Sampling must be repeated. origin should suspected refractory forms empiric antifungal may useful.
